Record Breaking Increases on Some Routes

TAP Air Portugal (TAP)’s Europe to Brazil routes exceeded two million passengers last year, representing a record-breaking increase of 7.1% compared to 2023.

The largest percentage increase, however, was seen on the airline’s North American (USA and Canada) routes, with an increase of 8.9% when compared to the previous year, bringing the total number of passengers to 1.59 million.

Flights between the islands of Madeira and mainland Portugal also experienced healthy growth, with a total of 983,000 passengers flying with the airline, a 3.3% uplift when compared to 2023 figures.

Similarly, the Azores routes saw a 1.3% increase in passenger numbers, with a total of 527,000 passengers flying with TAP last year.

More Modest Increases Elsewhere

In contrast, Europe to Africa routes saw a slight decline, with the airline carrying 1.1 million passengers in 2024, a 0.1% reduction compared to 2023.

Passengers carried on flights to mainland Europe, excluding Portugal, also saw more modest increases, with a 0.9% increase in passenger numbers, reaching a total of 8.8 million.

The airline reported €117.8 Million Profit in the third quarter of 2024 which, while representing a decline of €62.8 million compared to the same period in 2023, was a €116.6 million improvement compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
