25 Years of Innovation and Growth

Founded in 2000, MTU Aero Engines North America looks back on its achievements in engineering and its long-standing commitment to the local industry and community. Now boasting over 250 employees, the Connecticut site started out with only 25 employees and was founded by German-based engine experts from MTU Aero Engines 25 years ago. The company has made a significant investment in technology, equipment, and a modern working environment. The company celebrated this achievement with employees and representatives from local government and businesses at the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks, CT, on July 17, 2025.

About MTU AENA

MTU AENA, a key component of MTU’s global engineering network, was originally established to facilitate engineering collaboration across all partnership programs between Germany-based MTU Aero Engines and U.S.-based Pratt & Whitney. Over time, it has grown into a significant contributor to MTU’s worldwide engineering efforts, handling over 200 projects annually for both MTU and external clients. Its revenue has more than doubled in the past decade.

MTU AENA offers a full range of engineering services to several customers in the aerospace and power generation industries, this includes commercial and military applications. MTU AENA’s work includes conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design tasks, such as structural design as well as thermal and secondary air system analyses. It also offers customer support, customised assessments, and solutions for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of aircraft engines and industrial gas turbines.

MTU Aero Engines CEO Lars Wagner commented that the anniversary marks a significant milestone and is a testament to the dedication and expertise of the AENA team. He said the main objective of MTU Aero has always been to deliver the highest quality and cutting-edge technology to partners and customers. The company remains committed to its objectives, Wagner added that AENA has played an important role in achieving their objectives, as he thanked the team at AENA for all their outstanding work and looks forward to what they will achieve in the upcoming years.

Jonathan Leach, president and CEO of MTU Aero Engines North America, stated that the Rocky Hill facility has long been a symbol of engineering excellence and innovation. Leach added that:

“We are committed to supporting the development of sustainable engine solutions for the future of aviation. AENA is on a strong path forward, and we’re excited about what the next 25 years and beyond will bring.”
