Luxair has introduced its new-generation Embraer E195-E2 aircraft on its route from Luxembourg to London City Airport (LCY). The aircraft maintains the direct route between the two European financial centres while offering more seats and a quieter cabin environment.

Luxair’s E195-E2 Begins Operating at London City Airport

The aircraft made its first flight on Luxair’s route to London City Airport on Oct. 12. Each aircraft can accommodate approximately 136 passengers and will be used on selected flights between Luxembourg Airport (LUX) and London City Airport.

Currently, Luxair operates up to 31 flights on this route per week. The new capacity is expected to meet the needs of business travellers, leisure tourists and people visiting friends and relatives.

The E195-E2 is currently the largest aircraft operating at London City Airport. The airport received its first scheduled commercial E195-E2 flight in March 2025, operated by Helvetic Airways on behalf of Swiss International Air Lines.

New Aircraft Increases Capacity and Offers Quieter Operations

The Embraer E195-E2 is the largest aircraft in the manufacturer’s E-Jets E2 family. According to London City Airport, its noise footprint during takeoff is approximately 60% smaller than that of current jet aircraft such as the Embraer E190.

Passengers will benefit from a two-by-two seating configuration, meaning there are no middle seats in the cabin. Luxair also stated that this model offers a quieter and more spacious inflight experience.

Luxair has served London City Airport for more than 20 years. The company said that the new aircraft would increase capacity and passenger comfort on the route.
