Lufthansa, the flag carrier of Germany, has unveiled a special anniversary aircraft ahead of its 100th birthday celebrations in 2026. Instead of turning to professional designers, the airline asked its own employees to come up with the concept art.

A design shaped by employee stories
The result is a uniquely personal Airbus A321neo, featuring artwork and stories submitted by staff from across the company. It’s a move that shifts the focus away from traditional branding and towards the people behind the airline.
The project began with an open call for ideas, inviting Lufthansa employees to share meaningful experiences, memories and creative concepts. Submissions were shortlisted before staff voted on their favourites, with 12 ultimately selected to appear on the aircraft.
These designs reflect a mix of Lufthansa’s history and individual moments. Some highlight major milestones, while others focus on personal connections – including stories of colleagues who met through the job or worked together during key moments in aviation history.

Human take on an airline milestone
The finished livery brings these ideas together across the fuselage, creating something closer to a flying gallery than a standard aircraft design. Alongside Lufthansa’s well known crane logo, the aircraft features illustrated panels that represent teamwork, innovation and shared experiences within the airline.
As part of its centenary celebrations, Lufthansa is expected to introduce several special liveries and initiatives, one of which has already been in service since December last year. However, this aircraft stands out for its more personal angle, celebrating 100 years of operations and the people that contributed to the journey.
