Lufthansa has started a new partnership with Sho Shibuya for the launch of Allegris First Class. The Japanese artist will design exclusive loungewear, available for the new Allegris First Class flights between Munich and New York. Guests can experience “comfort you can’t buy” when wearing the uniquely designed loungewear in the privacy of their suites.

The inspiration for the design originates from the altitude of 10,000 feet when Shibuya took a picture of the sky from the window of his flight. This led to an alluring blend of azure, white, and dark blue. The garments are made from fine organic cotton satin with a shiny finish. Sho Shibuya said:

“The symmetry of the gradient from top to bottom makes it unique and reflects the experience of flying. The white in the middle represents the clouds, while the deep blue at the top represents the sky and the ocean at the bottom.”

Lufthansa approached Copenhagen-based homeware brand Tekla to discover that Shibuya’s distinctive creative vision was perfect for their airline.

About Sho Shibuya

Shibuya became famous based on his impressive colour gradients inspired by dawn and sunsets. He began working with the colours of the sky during the pandemic, from the window of his house in Brooklyn, New York. Therefore, flights to New York are the perfect canvas for the artist’s loungewear.

He said that painting sunsets were soon integrated into his daily life, “on the level of sleeping and eating”. The art world quickly took notice, and his paintings were exhibited at the Trienne Milano and the MoMu. Lufthansa also took notice and partnered with Shibuya to design the First Class’s attire.

“The Tekla team did an excellent job of realizing my artwork – and when I imagine people wearing it above the clouds, I can’t help but smile.”

Allegris First Class

The Lufthansa Allegris was introduced in 2024, on Lufthansa’s new Airbus A350s. It offered a new travel experience for long-haul routes, giving all classes a new top-quality product. Allegris is the largest service and product overhaul in Lufthansa Group’s history, with a 2.5 billion euro investment.

Its premium First Class offers a “Suite Plus”, a separate double cabin including a large table and two wide seats which can convert into a double bed. It also offers service at the highest level. The guests can order from a gourmet menu at any time, in an experience similar to a restaurant.

The latest edition to this luxury travel is Shibuya’s complimentary loungewear. This will be available on selected flights on the Munich-New York route in February.
