Cathay was named the exclusive founding travel partner of world-class Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP), further solidifying its vision for Hong Kong’s sporting, arts, and cultural development. The partnership aligns with the airline’s goal of supporting global  mega-events that put Hong Kong on the world stage.

 Kai Tak Sports Park Partnership: A New Era for Hong Kong’s Premier Sports Hub

Set to become Hong Kong’s largest integrated sports and entertainment landmark, Kai Tak Sports Park Partnership will see Cathay collaborating with KTSP to deliver world-class events to international audiences. It officially unveiled today at an announcement ceremony held at KTSP’s Health and Wellness Centre. In addition, The event featured speeches from Cathay Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau and KTSP Chief Executive Officer John Sharkey, alongside other distinguished guests.

Cathay’s Lavinia Lau mentioned  the airline’s deep-rooted connection to Kai Tak, the site of Hong Kong’s former international airport.

“Having been Cathay Pacific’s home for over many decades, the old Kai Tak Airport holds a cherished place in not only our hearts, as it is where our journey began, but also those of everyone who grew up in Hong Kong. In many ways, our return to Kai Tak as the exclusive Founding Travel Partner of KTSP is a testament to Cathay’s evolution from an airline to the leading premium travel lifestyle brand we are today. ​ It also symbolises our unwavering commitment to the continued growth and development of Hong Kong as a world-class city.” Lau said.

As well, Lau highlighted how the partnership will help attract visitors from around the world and strengthen Hong Kong tourism :

 “We are thrilled to welcome Cathay back to their original home. ​ Kai Tak was once the location where Hong Kong met the world and the world came to Hong Kong. ​ We are so pleased that this partnership will help bring that symbolism to life once again as we embark on bringing world class events for the people of Hong Kong and Cathay brings the global audience to our city as our exclusive Founding Travel Partner.”

Kai Tak’s Global Vision :Reviving Hong Kong’s Connection with the World

John Sharkey welcomed Cathay’s involvement, stating:

“Kai Tak was once where Hong Kong met the world, and we’re excited to revive that spirit. With Cathay’s support, KTSP will host international events that bring a global audience to our city.”

Cathay will also be title sponsor of the eagerly awaited Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens at KTSP for the first time from March 28-30, 2025. Additionally, a milestone for Hong Kong sports tourism : it highlights KTSP’s international-class facilities and cements the city as a dynamic sports destination for international mega-events.

However,  the wake of Cathay’s expansion into lifestyle and experience travel with Travel Partner. This partnership with KTSP is an ambitious step to position Hong Kong in the competition as one of the global presence in leading sports, culture, and entertainment centers.
