Jetblue’s first A321NEO departed the Hamburg factory earlier this morning and has since arrived into New York’s Kennedy airport which is one of Jetblue’s biggest hubs.

The airline has gone through some delays with the delivery of the new aircraft as it was supposed to arrive in the spring of this year but that was pushed back to the early summer months. This is not the aircraft that will take Jetblue to London but it does open up new opportunities for the company moving forward. Jetblue plans to deploy this aircraft on some longer south American routes including Guayaquil, Ecuador starting in December of this year. The flight will operate under the call sign JBU1769 departing JFK at 2:00PM and arriving in Ecuador just past nine in the evening. The return flight will be JBU1770 operating as a red eye from 11PM and arriving into JFK at 5:15AM.

It is unknown at this time whether Jetblue will expand service into Boston when more deliveries are made. However Boston is growing rapidly with airlines making a run for the top spot like Delta so you can expect Jetblue to make some moves before the years end.

Jetblue will be using the current A321 cabin layout for the new NEO aircraft with the 3 by 3 seating and the 10 inch TV screens, adjustable headrests, power outlets at all seats, and of course the famous most legroom in coach. The A320 fleet is also undergoing this renovation to bring a more modern feel to the cabin.

It will be something to look at to see how Jetblue manages the deliveries of their new aircraft and where they will deploy them. For now we know south America is a definite expansion destination for Jetblue and their new A321NEO planes.
