The sale of five new summer routes from Bournemouth Airport has been cancelled by Jet2. The lines are to Jersey, Dubrovnik, Malaga, Reus, and Verona, and they were supposed to become operational in 2026. They were to have been supported by an additional aircraft at Bournemouth, which became Jet2’s 12th UK base in February this year.

Response of Jet2 on the cancellation of five summer routes

In September of last year, four new routes were revealed, along with an additional flight to Kos. Later, in April, Jet2 declared that flights between Jersey and Bournemouth will begin in the summer of 2026.

A spokesperson said,

“As a successful business, we are continually reviewing our flying program and will adjust where required. This gives us the ability to add flights and holidays in response to demand, and very occasionally we may withdraw flights too.

“Following this latest review, we have decided to withdraw services to Malaga, Dubrovnik, Jersey, Reus, and Verona for summer 2026 from Bournemouth Airport and are contacting independent travel agent partners who have made bookings to these destinations to let them know.”

When Jet2 announced the launch of its first program from Bournemouth last year, CEO Steve Heapy described the response as ‘truly phenomenal’.

The airline is also believed to be dropping flights between Edinburgh and Izmir from October 2025, which are also no longer on sale.

It is the third largest UK airline behind easyJet and British Airways. Its subsidiary, Jet2holidays, was founded in 2007 and is now the largest tour operator in the United Kingdom as of 2023, with its iconic TV advertisements featuring Jess Glynne’s “Hold My Hand” boasting cheap package holidays with benefits such as free child places and complimentary hold luggage allowances. The airline has bases at several other UK airports such as Luton Airport (LTN), Bristol Airport (BRS), and Manchester Airport (MAN), as well as bases in Alicante (ALC) and Palma de Mallorca (PMI).
