An intoxicated man breached security at Perth Airport after being refused to board. The New Zealand passenger was arrested after the incident and now awaits a court hearing.
What happened in Perth Airport:
The 25-year-old male from New Zealand was denied to board the flight in Perth Airport after being identified as intoxicated. Following this, he was agitated and pushed the airport staff to break the window glass and entered the tarmac.
This incident was immediately reported to the Australian Federal Police and the passenger was arrested for breaching the airport security and entered the airside security zone without the necessary permission.
He has been summoned to appear before the Perth Magistrates court and he can face a fine of up to AU $15,650 ($10,430).
The Airport security zones are under severe surveillance after this incident to ensure the passengers and airport workers safety. Hayley Faithful, the Australian Federal Police Superintendent spoke to Australia 7News regarding this incident.
Hayley said,
“Airside restrictions exist to ensure the safety and security of the travelling public and workers. If you choose to ignore the warnings and enter an airside security zone without permission, you will potentially face prosecution.”
Why intoxicated people are not allowed to board:
Transporting intoxicated passengers will increase the safety risk of the aircraft and the passengers. After being drunk, they don’t understand or follow the crew instructions and become a troublemaker.
This will not only affected him but also the crew and the all the passengers on board. The effects of alcohols can also be high when travelling at high altitude. The intoxicated people can become unpredictable and cause chaos with fellow passengers. This will disrupt the routine activities of crew and create danger especially during turbulence or onboard emergencies.
These are all the main reasons for the airlines to deny the boarding for drunken people. They have trained staff to examine the people before boarding and if they find someone is under the influence of alcohol then they can deny their boarding.
