Expanding network

Purnea is the airline’s 94th domestic destination, and is the fourth in Bihar after Patna, Gaya, and Darbhanga, bringing IndiGo’s overall destination to 137. The flights connecting Kolkata (West Bengal) and Purnea (Bihar) will operate three times per week, effective Sep. 15, 2025. IndiGo has been committed to enhancing its connectivity to tier two and tier three cities in India. Purnea is currently preparing to launch its commercial airport under the Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN) scheme, and according to IndiGo, the launch of this new route will mark the inauguration of the airport.

The new service will be operated with the airline’s ATR aircraft as the airline aims for affordable air travel for its customers between Bihar’s Seemanchal region and Kolkata, eastern India’s major aviation hub, enabling travellers from Purnea access to the airline’s domestic and international network through Kolkata. The airline stated that the new routes will also promote trade, tourism, and economic growth in eastern India.

Vinay Malhotra, head of sales at IndiGo, commented that Purnea is an emerging centre for trade and that IndiGo is the first airline to operate from the newly launched airport. Malhotra stated that the new route reaffirms IndiGo’s commitment to ensuring air travel is more affordable and accessible, while enabling new opportunities in tier two and tier three cities across India.
