IndiGo appoints Mr Amitabh Kant, a former Indian bureaucrat, as a non-executive director. The new role is subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals. Kant brings several years of experience to IndiGo following several leadership positions. He served as India’s G20 Sherpa under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Non-Executive Director
As a board member, Amitabh Kant will provide governance and oversight on matters relating to IndiGo including strategic views on improving performances.
According to Vikram Singh Mehta, IndiGo’s chairman of the board of directors, Amitabh Kant leadership qualities were a valuable addition to the board. He mentioned that Amitabh Kant’s successful projects that are on a global scale showcases his leadership skills and that it will greatly benefit IndiGo’s fast-paced international expansion immensely.
He further said IndiGo will leverage Kant’s broad experience and knowledge in achieving its vision of becoming a global player by 2030.

Kant is a highly respected former Indian bureaucrat, a renowned governance reformer and geopolitical strategist. He has been a key player in numerous initiatives such as Make in India, Startup India, Incredible India, and God’s Own Country. Kant is a retired member of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). The IAS is one of the three All India Services along with the Indian Police Service and Indian Forest Service, they are responsible for formulating and implementing government policies. It is the administrative arm of the All-India Services of the Government of India. Kant was part of the 1980 IAS batch, Kerala Cadre, stepping down June 16, 2025 as India’s Sherpa to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G20 Presidency.
For six years Kant was also the chief executive officer of National Institution for Transforming India, leading the Aspiration Districts Programme (ADP). Additionally, he served as Director on the Board of the National Highways Authority of India and as a member of India’s National Statistical Commission. Kant was behind several large-scale sustainability initiatives such as the Green Hydrogen Mission and the National Mission on Transformative Mobility and Battery Storage. He played a key role in the expansion of Calicut Airport and Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor. Kant’s vast experience speaks for itself. In the announcement he said,
