Over 84 Million Passengers Went Through Heathrow

On August 1, 2025, there was more than 270,000 passengers that travelled through London Heathrow, becoming the busiest day since the airport’s first opening. Furthermore, the West London airport reached a daily average of an astounding 231,000 arrivals and departures, claiming that over 97 per cent of passengers waited less than five minutes to pass through security.

The month of December was particularly busy for Heathrow, with daily numbers totalling slightly higher than the average for the year. On this matter, Chief Executive for Heathrow, Thomas Woldbye, shared:

“December’s record-breaking performance shows the strength of demand for Heathrow and the benefit to passengers of the great service our colleagues are providing.”

With these exceptional numbers, Heathrow’s passenger numbers grew by 0.7 per cent over the year compared to 2024.

Record Highs Results May Continue

The numbers are expected to continue rising, as Heathrow has also now officially been given the go-ahead for a third runway. This £49 billion expansion plan at the UK’s busiest hub airport could increase the number of passengers travelling through to 150 million a year, almost double the current total.

Thomas Woldbye continued on the subject:

“Last year, there was no hub airport in Europe that was more punctual than Heathrow and we look forward to building on that success in 2026. With the government’s support for our expansion plans, and the right regulatory framework from the Civil Aviation Authority to secure private investment, we can unlock even more of that connectivity, trade and economic growth for the UK.”

Nonetheless, this expansion will take a considerable amount of time, and it is not expected to be completed before 2035.
