Friday 12 December 2025, Glasgow Prestwick Airport was named Air Freight Business of the Year at the Logistics UK Awards. Over the past year, they have been strengthening UK trade links and sustainable cargo growth, between Asia, the United Kingdom and Europe.

Prestwick Airport (PIK)
Glasgow Prestwick Airport is a commercial airport located on the west coast of Scotland. This airline is one of the UK’s few Tier-One airports for security emergencies, operating 24/7.
It was first established in the 1920s and served as a WWII US Air Force base. Hosting notable aircrafts such as the Antonov An-225. It handled return ferry crews, freight, mail and casualty evacuation with over 37,000 aircrafts passing through by 1945.
In 2025, PIK increased its workforce by more than 150 and invested in e-commerce processing facilities such as Royal Mail and Evri operations based at Prestwick. This is significant due to lower emissions being emitted as the faster processing of cross-boarder parcels reduced the need for long-distance trucking across the UK.
This airport runs efficiently with a two hour turn around for wider-bodied freighter aircrafts, and their warehouse screening machines enable all types of cargo to be handled safely and efficiently.

Air Freight Business of the Year
This award recognises the performance and industry leadership in the air freight sector (transportation of goods). This is one of the fastest ways to ship items over long distances and is crucial for high-value and time-sensitive materials.
PIK recorded significant rises in flight rotations in 2025 and became the UK base for multiple airlines, such as:
- Air China Cargo
- China Southern Airlines
- Beijing Capital Airlines
Due to this, PIK operate sixteen weekly full freighter services to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and Zhengzhou Xinxheng International Airport.
Ian Forgie, chief executive officer, said:
This award reflects the discipline and focus shown by our entire team over the past year,
We have grown our network, built strong partnerships, and delivered reliable performance at a scale that has changed what Prestwick can offer to the market.

At the award ceremony in the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, London, Prestwick’s business development director, Nico Le Roux (second to the left), accepted the award on behalf of the airport. He stated it was due to the entire airport team’s effort that they were able to deliver transformational growth.
