Earlier this morning operations were halted between 6:30am and 7:00am (local time) at London Gatwick Airport following a pilot reporting debris on the runway following the emergency landing of a Virgin Atlantic Airbus A332 (reg G-VWND)

Following the report, Gatwick Airport services launched a runway inspection.

UPDATE 09:25 LT Flight delays expected until early afternoon.
UPDATE 07:07 LT The runway was closed for approx. 30 mins, delays are expected.
UPDATE 07:03 LT Air Traffic is resuming, TUI #BY4524 is the first to take off.

The closure caused delays and travel disruption with the backlog still ongoing after a total closure time of half an hour.
