Emirates has announced that on June 3rd 2024, they will begin to operate daily flights to Bogotá via Miami. The new destination is the airline’s fourth gateway into South America, with its network now expanding to 19 different points across both South and North America.
Connecting with Columbia
The news of the expansion will establish not only a connection between the United Arab Emirates and Columbia but also mark a historic moment between the Northern part of the South American continent and the greater Middle East region, with it being the first-ever link between these two parts of the world.
The airline’s announcement of the new route into Bogatá will expand its South American network to four different gateways. Bogatá sits among scheduled services to Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo. Furthermore, this now ups Emirates operations to 19 points across the U.S., Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Columbia.
Sir Tim Clark, the President of Emirates Airline, stated:
“We’ve long wanted to serve Colombia, and the addition of Bogotá to our network is part of our strategy to deliver better connectivity, expand options and choice for travellers and provide unparalleled premium experiences on the ground and in the air. The launch of our daily operations to the dynamic capital of Colombia also underscores our deep commitment to South America, and is poised to foster increased business and leisure travel opportunities for customers.”
The connection is not only a strategic move for the airline but also the new daily flights to South America’s second-largest city by population, nicknamed the “Athens of South America,” will serve the growing demand for travel between Columbia and the Middle East. The flights themselves will actually run on a direct route between Miamia and Bogatá. This decision was made due to the high altitude of Bogatá; it isn’t possible to operate direct flights from Dubai to this city, meaning a stopover was necessary. Maimi was the obvious choice for Emirates due to its already-established connection with Bogatá through trade links and tourism.
