Emirates and ENOC, a wholly owned entity of the Government of Dubai, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore and develop initiatives to boost the supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to Emirates at its hub in Dubai.

Adel Al Redha, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Operating Officer, and Hussain Sultan Lootah, Acting CEO of ENOC Group, signed the MoU for SAF on the sidelines of the Dubai Airshow.

Emirates and ENOC:

Emirates has partnered with ENOC to explore opportunities for supplying SAF in Dubai, encompassing supply chain infrastructure, production capabilities, and commercial viability.

The MoU signifies the importance of developing economically feasible SAF and supply chain infrastructure in Dubai. ENOC evaluates its own contribution in the local production. This evaluation will be guided by the joint steering committee.

Adel Al Redha, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Operating Officer, said,

“Emirates continues to explore ways to integrate sustainable aviation fuel adoption in our operations, and this partnership with ENOC represents an important step in that journey. Establishing reliable SAF supply in our Dubai hub is a key priority, and this collaboration allows us to assess the most viable pathways for integration.”

Hussain Sultan Lootah, Acting CEO of ENOC Group said:

“As the UAE works toward supplying 1% of jet fuel to national airlines from locally produced SAF by 2031, we believe this collaboration brings us a step closer to that goal. ENOC will continue to invest in innovation, strengthen partnerships, and explore practical pathways to build reliable SAF supply chains that support the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 ambition.”

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF):

SAF is helpful in maintaining a safe and less polluted environment by creating a fuel which is significantly lower in lifecycle carbon emissions. SAF blended with conventional jet fuel at a 50% ratio can make this happen.

It is also a safe and fully certified drop-in fuel compatible with the existing aircraft fleet and airport infrastructure. It can reduce the lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 80% when it is used without blending it with conventional jet fuel.

Emirates had previously inked a deal in January 2023 for its Boeing 777 aircraft to use 100% SAF in one engine and, in November 2023, flew its first A380 demonstration flight with 100% SAF in one of its four engines.

In the 2024-25 financial year, the airline secured 7,519 tonnes of SAF across its network, including London Heathrow, Oslo and Singapore, among others.
