Edinburgh Airport’s consultation to modernise and redesign outdated airspace in Scottish Skies was announced on Oct. 20th as an aviation effort to enable smarter, and more efficient flight paths across Scotland.

Edinburgh Airport’s Consultation to Transform Scottish Airspace
Communities, stakeholders and political representatives gathered together on Oct. 20 to discuss the coordinated airspace change that will modernise the Scottish skies.
The change is honoured by Edinburgh Airport, Glasgow Airport and NATS to modernise flight paths which were created in the 50s, making flights seamless, safer and convenient for passengers. EDI and GLA are responsible for redirecting flight pathways below 7,000ft and NATS will be responsible for anything above.
As part of as a Governmental sustainable initiative and he Civil Aviation Authority’s Airspace Modernisation Strategy to enable airspace to be greener, quicker, and quieter, both airports will modernise aviation paths. The Airspace Change Organising Group (ACOG) have provided a strategic plan called the Airspace Change Masterplan to make sure efficiency, capacity and environmental performance is improved across the UK.
“We are fast-tracking airspace modernisation to deliver more reliable, efficient, and greener flights, while giving passengers greater choice and a better experience. It is fantastic to see Scottish airports and NATS reach this important milestone. shares Minister for Aviation, Maritime, and Decarbonisation, Keith Mather.

Modernisation of Airports, Airspace and Arrival.
As part of a sustainable initiative to modernise flight paths which are designed for older aircraft models, meaning newer ones often have to fly further distances and use more fuel and energy than needed.
Modern technology, aviation sustainability plans, and environmental concerns means that the Edinburgh Airport consultation for stakeholders, representatives, and the local community will be involved in harnessing the UK’s critical national infrastructure of airspace and prepare the next generation of aviation with suitable flight paths.
Changes to EDI and GLA are proposed from arrival and departure procedures, reducing cost and emissions upon flight, and reducing the overall noise emission for surrounding communities.
Airspace will also be optimised for its full capacity and redirection of new routes for modern aircraft, creating more accessible skies.
Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport, Gordon Dewar, shares:
“The modernisation of our skies has been needed for some time, and the proposals we’re presenting today have been shaped through our engagement and discussion with our local communities and our partners across various industries and sectors. We know this is a complex topic, and the consultation period will allow us to continue that engagement and explain the potential benefits for communities, the airport, and the environment, while maintaining an open dialogue.”
