Edelweiss Air is continuing its fleet modernisation with the arrival of its first Airbus A320neo, marking a major step in expanding and upgrading its short-haul operations. The aircraft, transferred from Swiss International Air Lines, is set to enter service in April 2026 and reflects the airline’s broader growth strategy within the leisure travel market.

Aircraft transfer and entry into service
The Airbus A320neo previously flew with Swiss Air Lines until it was withdrawn from service in September 2023. It remained parked in Zurich before being ferried to Ljubljana in September 2025. Later, the aircraft was repositioned to Norwich International for maintenance on March 20, 2026.
The aircraft is scheduled to enter service on April 2, 2026, serving the Zurich–Catania route. Its introduction represents Edelweiss’ first use of the A320neo, bringing enhanced efficiency and improved onboard comfort to passengers.

Fleet expansion and modernisation strategy
Edelweiss plans to expand its short-haul fleet to 16 aircraft by April 2026. As part of this growth, one Airbus A320 has already joined the fleet in October 2025, followed by the Airbus A320neo in April 2026. The airline aims to add a total of six A320neos, with the remaining aircraft expected to come from Austrian Airlines.
Bernd Bauer, CEO of Edelweiss Air, said:
“I am delighted that Edelweiss is continuing to develop on short- and medium-haul routes and that we are taking an important step towards modernising our short-haul fleet with the first Airbus A320neo. The aircraft combines state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly technology with greater comfort for our guests.”
The Airbus A320neo consumes at least 15% less fuel than its predecessor, reducing emissions, and is significantly quieter. These advantages improve the environmental footprint and create additional opportunities for use on longer routes.
