The first easyJet flights into City of Derry Airport (CoDA) touched down on Monday, providing greater links between north-west Northern Ireland and Great Britain.

The routes to and from Edinburgh Airport (EDI) and Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL) cost from £14.99 and depart on Mondays and Fridays. The twice-weekly service adds to easyJet’s existing routes from airports in Northern Ireland’s capital Belfast.

easyJet passengers flying from CoDA on Monday enjoyed complimentary champagne and buns to mark the route launch. Mayor of Derry City & Strabane Cllr Lilian Seenoi-Barr and Chamber of Commerce representatives attended the celebrations.

Managing Director at CoDA Steve Frazer stated:

The launch of easyJet services will be an additional economic driver for business investment in the Northwest and inbound travel and tourism, we are proud to be able to help grow and develop these sectors in our local area.

easyJet’s UK Country Manager Ali Gayward commented:

We are thrilled to be celebrating the launch of our year-round operations from City of Derry Airport to Liverpool and Edinburgh today, and to be providing even more choice for our business and leisure customers alike.

Chief Executive of Visit Derry Odhran Dunne said:

From Visit Derry’s perspective, it is all about growing the inbound tourism, whether that is leisure tourism or corporate and business travel, so I think this is a fantastic opportunity for the region to grow and do that.

About City of Derry Airport

CoDA’s UK destinations include Birmingham, Glasgow, London Heathrow and Manchester.  Passengers will welcome easyJet’s new service after Scottish airline Loganair stopped operating its Edinburgh and Liverpool routes in 2023. CoDA also offers seasonal charters to foreign destinations such as Faro, Portugal, Verona, Italy and Lourdes, France.

After the airport’s passenger numbers fell by 5% from 2022 to 2023, easyJet’s new routes will come as a relief to CoDA stakeholders.
