Following the earthquake in Myanmar on Friday, 28 March 2025, the aviation control tower at Naypyidaw International Airport has collapsed. Initial reports indicate that at least 5 officers who were on duty as the earthquake struck, have lost their lives.

Collapsed Control Tower Took Lives of at Least Five
In the afternoon of 28 March, Myanmar was struck by a 7.7 Magnitude earthquake that put the country and the neighbouring areas in devastation. Naypyidaw, the capital of Myanmar, has been severely impacted. The runway of the airport is also seriously damaged, according to military personnel.
During the earthquake, the control centre at the Naypyidaw International Airport collapsed under violent shaking, with initial reports indicating that 5 officers on duty when the earthquake struck have died.

After Myanmar Earthquake: Air Traffic Updates in the Region
The earthquake has affected aviation in Myanmar and nearby regions, including Thailand. Most airports in Thailand have resumed operations with no reported structural damage. Thai Airways also announced the resumption of operations at 3 pm, shortly after the earthquake.
While flights are resumed, travellers are advised to take into account safety risks when travelling to nearby regions, and if necessary, change their travel plans according to air traffic updates.
