On 5 June, Cathay Pacific announced another new destination in 2025. Their first direct flight to Rome took off from Hong Kong International Airport. This is the 4th new destination Cathay has announced this year, out of the 16 destinations for the whole year, as part of their strategic route expansion plan.

Cathay Pacific: Extensive Route Expansion Plans for 2025, 4 Destinations announced so far
Rome is the 4th destination Cathay announced since the start of 2025, following Hyderabad, Dallas-Fort Worth and Urumqi. Lavina Lau, the airline’s Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, envisions strong connections between Hong Kong and multiple major European cities:
“In addition to Rome, we will also be launching flights to Munich and Brussels this summer. In total, we will be operating close to 100 return flights per week to 12 European destinations, providing our customers with even greater connectivity between Hong Kong and this important region.”
This new direct route operates 3 times a week on Monday, Thursday and Saturday from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) to Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO).
