British Airways will see its customers spoilt for choice as the airline adds more popular Italian destinations to its network. The three new additions of Rimini (RMI), Salerno (QSR) and Olbia (OLB) makes Italy the flag carrier’s most serviced European country.

The Most Popular European Destination

Launching in May 2025, the three new routes will expand the airline’s already extensive network of Italian destinations. The new routes bring the flag carrier’s total number of Italian destinations to 19. This is more than any other European country on the airline’s network. The new destinations include the city of Rimini on the Adriatic coast, Salerno on the picturesque Amalfi coast as well as Olbia in the Mediterranean island of Sardinia.

British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, Neil Chernoff, has affirmed Italy’s popularity as a sought-after travel destination.

Italy continues to prove hugely popular with our customers, which is why it’s our biggest European destination, and second globally behind the US. [..] Last month, we saw a 21% increase in searches for summer flights from the US to Italy compared to 2023, so we’re pleased to be offering an even bigger choice of Italian destinations for our American customers next year. Rimini, Salerno and Olbia are all coastal destinations, so we expect them to be particularly popular with our leisure customers seeking sun, sea, and of course Italy’s fantastic food.

Flight Frequencies

Flights to Rimini, located in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region, will operate three times per week out of London Heathrow Airport. These flights will operate from 15 May 2025 to 27 September 2025

Three weekly flights to the Amalfi destination of Salerno will be operated by British Airways’ Gatwick-based subsidiary, BA Euroflyer. These flights will operate from May 22 to Oct. 25 2025.

Finally, flights to Olbia in Sardinia will operate once weekly from 25 May 2025 and increase to twice weekly for the Summer season from 16 July 2025. For Olbia, customers will have the option of either flying out from London City airport or London Heathrow airport. Flights will operate until Sept. 28 2025.

With its rich culture, famous cuisine and coastal cities full of charm and character, it’s no wonder Italy remains Europe’s most popular holiday destination. These new Italian routes will see British Airways grow its network. The airline will not only be boosting its presence in Southern Europe but also its popularity amongst holidaymakers.
