A major breakthrough has come in the form of recovery of the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) of flight PK 8303, as reported by Pakistan International Airlines. The key recovery will serve as hard evidence into the ongoing crash investigation. PIA tweeted earlier today:

PK 8303 AP BLD Cockpit Voice Recorder has been found from the debris and handed over to AAIB team. This will be a key component in the Air Crash Investigation. PIA Teams were searching extensively for CVR aided by Airbus Team. pic.twitter.com/fIxdz4QM8u

We had previously reported that the investigation teams are fervently looking for the missing CVR amid confusion about the recovery of both recorders. However, just yesterday the teams confirmed that only the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) had been recovered.  The crucial find is attributed to the efforts made by local investigation authorities plus the Airbus Team that flew in on Monday and since then is busy collecting evidence.

Today, the Prime Minister Imran Khan was also briefed by PIA and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officials regarding updates on the crash investigation. Khan expressed urgency to the involved parties to get to the bottom of the matter as early as possible.

Since then, however, the CVR has been recovered and it will immensely contribute to the investigations being conducted by both the CAA and the French Investigation team. The root cause of the crash of PK 8303 depends heavily on successful data retrieval from the recovered flight recorders.

Travel Radar will continue monitoring events as they unfold.
