The Australian airline Bonza is looking for “Local Legends” from each of its 17 destinations

Legends, Larrikins, and Personalities About Town

Australia’s newest ultra-low-cost carrier is on the lookout for 17 Local Legends to travel on its first flights to Melbourne. Bonza will choose a Local Legend from each of its destinations, who will receive a free trip for themselves and three friends.

“We’re an airline for the many and not the few. That’s why we’re calling on locals to share their travel tips and in turn, help fellow Aussies explore their own backyard. If you’re a legend, larrikin, personality about town–come forward. We’re looking for big hearts, welcoming arms and people who aren’t shy to give it a go and promote their slice of Allstralia.”

The new campaign feeds into Bonza’s tagline: ‘here for Allstralia”. The airline has a focus on regional connectivity, offering point-to-point travel to smaller destinations currently underserved by Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin and Rex. Of the 17 destinations offered, Melbourne is the only major city. The others include: Albury, Avalon, Bundaberg, Cairns, Coffs Harbour, Gladstone, Mackay, Mildura, Newcastle, Port Macquarie, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba Wellcamp, Townsville, and the Whitsunday Coast.

More Than Just the Flight

A free trip to Melbourne is not the only reward for those crowned as Local Legends. Bonza says they will continue to work with contest winners to continue promoting their destination and “help put their hometown on the map”.

“We’re an airline for teachers, tradies, kids, and carers and we want to reflect that in the way we spotlight the many incredible destinations on our route map,” said Carly Povey.

Legends will also help taste-test the airline’s ‘all-Australian’ menu, try on the crew uniforms and help pick other members of their community to join them on the inaugural flight.
