Austrian Airlines and Austria’s international airport Vienna International Airport has recently announced a partnership with corporate Silicon Valley startup and innovation platform Plug and Play to improve passenger experience and operations via digitalisation.

Revolutionising the air travel experience

The initial partnership between Austrian Airlines and Vienna International was birthed with the purpose of developing new ideas that will make air travel processes easier and more convenient for customers.

As of April, Austria’s flag carrier joined Plug and Play’s Travel & Hospitality programme, which is based in Vienna International and connects the industry with startups to further digitalisation.

Digitalisation’s purpose within aviation is to increase comfort while travelling. This is key for  Austrian Airlines as they intend to improve customer experience, and its operational efficiency as well as aim to develop new products and additional beneficial services.

Vienna International Airport, named after the capital of Austria, is already part of the Plug and Play programme.

Chief Operating Officer of Austrian Airlines Francesco Sciortino commented in the partnership:

“Together with Plug and Play, we want to offer a wide-ranging travel experience for our guests and take a leading role in fostering digital transformation in aviation around the world.”

Executive Board Member of Vienna International Airport echoed Sciortino’s positivity:

“Within this innovation partnership, Austrian Airlines and Vienna Airport work jointly on concepts, which aim to make passenger processes or check-ins even easier and more efficient. Digitalization opens new perspectives. Through our common expertise and the support of Plug and Play and their startups, new innovative solutions will be created.”

Benjamin Kloss, director at Plug and Play at Vienna International Airport spoke of how proud the Silicon Valley startup is to kick off this partnership with “one of Austria’s most iconic and beloved brands.” Kloss continued:

“Austrian Airlines is one of the most renowned airlines in the world and Plug and Play are looking forward to actively supporting their efforts to drive innovation and bring customer experience to the next level.”
