American Airlines has announced on Friday that it will add an additional flight to depart from Columbia Regional Airport (COU) to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).

Details behind the additional flight

In a press release, the major American airline confirmed that the new flight at COU will begin on 6 April, and will depart to DFW at 11:59 AM daily.

It will give COU a total of five daily outbound flights – three to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and two to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD).

Airport Manager Mike Parks spoke of the positivity around the new flight for the company and its role in Columbia Regional Airport’s period of significant change and improvement:

“We are excited to increase the number of flights to and from COU. The City of Columbia will continue to create an environment where businesses such as American Airlines can thrive and find success in this region.”

Parks also spoke of greater connectivity the new flight provides for travellers:

“Maybe if the early morning flight doesn’t work out, this one may fit better in their schedule depending on where their final destination is.”

Change happening elsewhere

This announcement from the Texas-based airliner comes as the city nears the completion of a new airport terminal at COU.

On 2 March, members of Columbia Regional Airport’s Advisory Board had a tour of the new terminal.

The $23 million terminal is a 52,000 square-foot facility, and Airport Advisory Board chair, BJ Hunter, spoke of his hopes that the new terminal could increase air travel out of Columbia, remarking that “everybody wins when our air travel goes up”.

The new, larger terminal is due to open by late Summer 2022, with a host of amenities such as a restaurant, a sensory room, and a mother’s room.
