Strike by airport employees in Spain

This strike causes chaos among travellers heading to Spain for the Easter holiday weekend. The workers at 12 major Spanish airports began their strike on Monday, March 30.

The 12 major airports include Barcelona, Madrid, Alicante, Palma, Ibiza, Malaga and the Canary Islands. The strike was initially planned to be held on Friday, March 28, but was postponed to Monday, March 30.

Spanish airport operator Aena announced that,

“Groundforce staff have called an indefinite strike starting 30 March. Partial work stoppages will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during three time slots: 5-7 a.m., 11 a.m.-5 p.m., and 10 p.m.-midnight.”

Travellers in Spain are advised to check with the airlines to find out the status of their flights.

What is happening in Spanish aviation?

Menzies workers who are working in baggage handling had also planned for a strike last weekend, but it was cancelled. They are planning a strike from April 2 to April 6.

Travellers to Spain faced disruptions in September 2025 due to an indefinite strike by airport ground security staff at Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD).

In the last six months, Spanish airports have faced more than one strike, which disrupted the plans of the passengers in Spain.

Travellers reported on social media that they were in queues up to 90 minutes last September, which then led to missing flights and caused chaos at Terminal 4 in MAD.
