The airBaltic Fleet Expands

The Airbus, registered as YL-BTA, was welcomed as the 51st jet of its kind to the airport in Riga. This was the second of its type to be delivered in 2025, with the 50th aircraft welcomed in February. Since May 2020, the Airbus A220-300 is the single aircraft type within the airBaltic fleet, carrying more than 23,162,000 passengers.

Over the past 5 years, the A220-300 fleet has completed nearly 241,000 flights and flown 530,000 block hours. Currently, it seems any future expansions to the airBaltic fleet will continue with this specific aircraft type due to their vast strengths. Additionally, airBaltic has become the first European carrier to offer free high-speed SpaceX Starlink internet, which is gradually being equipped to the entire airBaltic fleet.

The Strengths of the Airbus

Using a single aircraft type across all flights has allowed airBaltic additional efficiency and minimised complexity in using various aircraft types, performing beyond company expectations. From overall performance, fuel efficiency and convenience for both passengers and staff, a positive flying experience is on offer. For example, wider seats, larger windows, vast hand luggage space, and improved lavatories are a few of the reported strengths of the Airbus A220-300.

Furthermore, this aircraft contains a smaller noise footprint than its previous generation, as well as being one of the most efficient commercial aircrafts. The Airbus A220-300 has a transparent declaration of the life-cycle environmental impact. For example, compared to its previous generation and industry standards, CO2 and NOx emissions are reduced by 25% and 50% respectively, emphasising the various reasons why airBaltic continues welcoming this Airbus.
