Air New Zealand announces Koru Lounge upgrade set to arrive in 2027

Air New Zealand plans to expand the airline’s spacious lounge by nearly doubling the floor space and incorporating two new lounges for premium travellers; including one for Airpoints Elite and Business travellers, and a second space for Airpoints Gold, Star Alliance Gold, Airpoints Silver and Koru members. Greg Foran, CEO of Air New Zealand says that the new lounges are designed with a “Fresh new look” to enhance customers travel experience, inspired by the “best of Aotearoa.”

Air New Zealand shares the inspiration of the country’s rich heritage, unique sights and landscapes to create the premium space. With delicate colour blends and improved furnishings, Air New Zealand aims to bring the distinct nature of New Zealand into the lounge for travellers from all over the world to experience. The lounges will cater to the diverse needs of travellers such as ‘no disturbance’ area for business purposes to social spaces for spending quality time.

Auckland International Airport will improve and enhance customer experience for the upgraded Koru lounge due to limited spaces during peak travel times currently. The airport also aims to maintain customer benefits, whilst implementing some offers based on current circumstances during construction.

The new lounge which will provide up to 70 percent more seating, according to Air New Zealand, and will include: more comfortable areas to rest, quiet focus areas such as work-productive rooms and single-seating booths for those who will continue their efforts to work upon travel, and dedicated family areas which will be perfectly sculpted for those travelling with children.

How the lounge will operate during construction

Expected to begin early 2026, Air New Zealand shares with customers what to expect during construction if you will be travelling to Auckland International Airport during construction times. Customers will still be able to access the lounge, and a variety of pop-up spaces, allowing travellers to unwind before departure with no inconvenience caused.

The construction will be underway in two phases:

  • Phase 1: Phase one will mean limited capacity whilst lounge construction begins on the premium Koru lounge space for business and Airpoints Elite customers, however the airline has reassured customers that spaces to relax will be provided during this time frame to avoid any discontent amongst travellers before their departure, making travel seamless and relaxing for all.
  • Phase 2: Once one of the lounge spaces is complete, construction on the main space for all will begin work, meaning travellers will be seated in the new premium lounge spaces for the time being until work is done.

Information for those travelling to Auckland International Airport when construction will begin will be notified with key information closer to the time.
