Emirates and South African Airways (SAA) have announced plans to expand their codeshare partnership. This will allow access to nine cities and demonstrates a shared agreement between the two airlines. Due to the expanded partnership, customers can travel to more destinations across South Africa with more flight connectivity.
How the codeshare partnership between Emirates and South African Airways works
Due to the shared codeshare agreement between Emirates and South African Airways, the two airlines have worked independently. As a result, South African Airways has placed their code on flights managed by Emirates between Dubai and Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban. Moreover, with the cooperative operational agreement between Emirates and South African Airways, both airlines work together on 68 Emirates destinations globally via Dubai.
Furthermore, as both airlines have secured regulatory approvals, Emirates will now be able to place its code on flights managed by South African Airways which will grow its network in South Africa as well as other nearby regions.
Consequently, the codeshare agreement includes nine new routes and three domestic flights from South Africa connecting Johannesburg with Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth. The codeshare agreement also involves six new regional routes linking South Africa with other countries in Central and South-Western Africa.
How Emirates and South African Airways are collaborating in the long-term
Emirates and South African Airways have worked in partnership for almost 30 years. Since 1997, millions of passengers have benefitted from a simplified ticketing process. The codeshare extension between both airlines increases travel access for South Africa and the surrounding region.
As such, the strong relationship between Emirates and South African Airways is based on mutual understanding.
