The Ministry of Civil Aviation monitors air travel in India as the conflict in West Asia causes issues for those travelling between the Gulf and India. The tensions between U.S., Israel and Iran have escalated into conflict, therefore, 50 flights are scheduled to take place on March 9 using various Indian carriers to fly into India.
How many people have been allowed to fly?
According to data on passenger movement as of March 7, 8,175 passengers flew were carried on 51 flights from Indian carriers, all flying into India from West Asia. On the following day, 49 flights were planned, with many Indian airlines planning on flying into India from a variety of airports in the region, including Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Jeddah, and Muscat.
Some of the airlines scheduled to fly include Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, Akasa and Air India Express, but operations depend on the growing situation and how safe travel will be to carry out.
Passenger safety
As part of the release by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, they added that passenger safety was at the centre of their decisions and that in order for flights to operate, they would have to assess the conditions. Moreover, they are trying to maintain the usual ticket prices, attempting to keep any surges from happening.
Advice from the Ministry states passengers should rely on their airline providers to keep them up to date with the status of their flights. Meanwhile, they have stated that they will continuously monitor the situation and notify the public of any changes.
This stems from ongoing tensions across the Middle East due to the U.S.-Israel and Iran conflict. These escalations in tension began Feb. 28, 2026, with U.S. and Israel airstrikes across Iran. This has resulted in air traffic disruption.
