Bristol Airport Announces Plan to Tackle Illegal Parking Operations

Bristol Airport confirms regular meetings with North Somerset Council and Avon and Somerset Police to tackle illegal parking operations, alongside “meet and greets”, which are resulting in anti-social behaviours.

Issues arose throughout 2025 and the teams gathered to address them. In Jan. 2026, the airport held a parking surgery which allowed local parishioners and councillors to raise their grievances with areas of concern regarding anti-social behaviours, including illegal parking.

Transport Planning Manager at Bristol Airport, Robert Henley, comments on the airport’s position on its parking plan of action:

“It’s been vital that we work together with North Somerset Council and Avon and Somerset Police, as the only way to tackle parking issues is through a joined-up approach.”

Parking Plan of Action and Agreement with Bristol Airport, Somerset Council and Police Force

Forty important actions to tackle illegal parking operations and anti-social meet and greet behaviours surrounding the local area were highlighted, some of the outcomes included:

  • New signage to enforce a no-stopping or waiting in the lane directly off the airport’s roundabout.
  • Parking restrictions in the Bridle Cottage layby on the A38 limit waiting times to a maximum of two hours.
  • Contacting local taxi firms to enforce a one-hour free in the waiting zone before reminding them to move on to prevent congestion and illegal parking.

Passengers are reminded of Bristol Airport’s public transportation system, which will benefit local customers and prevent illegal parking operations that could affect passengers at the airport.
