WestJet has added four brand-new routes to its summer 2026 schedule. The move is part of WestJet’s effort to boost domestic travel within Canada. WestJet was founded in 1994 and launched operations in 1996 with just three aircraft and five destinations, starting as a low-cost alternative to Canada’s bigger airlines, making air travel more accessible.

Where Can The New Routes Take You?

The added routes are as follows: Calgary to Sault Ste. Marie, which flies biweekly and starts on June 12, 2026; Calgary to North Bay, also biweekly, starting on June 19, 2026; from Calgary to Campbell River, daily, starting on May 15, 2026; and from Edmonton to Ed-Terrace, also biweekly, starting on May 19, 2026.

The daily route to Campbell River is expected to support local tourism, business travel and seasonal employment in sectors such as hospitality, fishing and ecotourism. Faster and more reliable connectivity helps attract investment and talent for businesses, while for travellers, it opens up easier access to one of British Columbia’s growing regional hubs.

Balazzs Bogats, Calgary Airport’s chief commercial officer, said:

“We’re thrilled to welcome West Jet to Campbell River to deliver a seasonal service from Calgary to Campbell River in 2026. This new route to a major travel hub is a significant milestone in growing the City of Campbell River Airport.”

Why Regional Connectivity Still Matters

WestJet is significantly strengthening its domestic network by adding extra capacity on some of its busiest east-to-west routes.

Direct services to destinations like Campbell River allow travellers to bypass busy transfer points. It also improves operational efficiency for the carrier by spreading demand more evenly.

WestJet’s latest network expansion demonstrates how targeted growth can translate into tangible benefits for travellers across Canada. The new flights will be operating using a mix of Boeing Aircraft and Q400 turboprops, enhancing direct connections between regional centres and WestJet’s Calgary hub. The introduction of new routes, alongside strengthened east-to-west connectivity, gives passengers greater choice, more direct services, and improved reliability during the busy summer travel period.
