Air New Zealand, the country’s national carrier, has announced an investment in OneReg, an aviation regulatory compliance platform founded in New Zealand, marking a turning point for the platform’s global expansion within the aviation sector.
The monetary value of the deal has not been disclosed.
How OneReg Keeps Aviation Running Smoothly
OneReg brands itself as a next-generation software platform designed specifically for aviation to simplify compliance and streamline operations. Its implementation in a major passenger airline is likely to be mutually beneficial for both Air New Zealand and OneReg.
OneReg’s CEO, Clinton Cardozo, said:
“OneReg is operating in a niche that’s absolutely mission‑critical for aviation. However, the industry still runs on a lot of outdated systems and technology – including emailing Word and Excel documents to share between parties. The reality is that as soon as these are emailed, you lose version control. When we started OneReg, we firmly believed that by building a platform that solves that problem, airlines and airports could get certified, approved and audited faster, and therefore move and innovate faster too.”
In addition to acquiring a 5% stake in the company, Air New Zealand has deployed OneReg’s services across its Engineering and Maintenance divisions, where teams are using the platform to manage the policies, processes and procedures surrounding airworthiness and maintenance operations, highlighting the platform’s ability to support fast-paced and complex real-world applications.
The airline’s CEO, Nikhil Ravishankar, highlighted OneReg’s unique approach and expertise:
“What stood out most was OneReg’s willingness to co‑innovate and co‑develop solutions with Air New Zealand. OneReg offered a system with the flexibility to manage updates and documentation in real time, aligning with the airline’s broader shift towards more digital, data‑driven ways of working.”
OneReg Set to Go Global
Air New Zealand’s status as both shareholder and customer has propelled OneReg into global expansion. With the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand (CAANZ) supporting the regulatory platform, its operations currently taking place in New Zealand and Australia are set to expand, with the company in talks with airlines and airports in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
Cardozo added:
“Having such a forward-thinking airline like Air New Zealand onboard opens a lot of doors for us. We are talking to other airlines, and announcements of contracts with new international airports are likely in the near future. Our technology advantage is a key differentiator in a sector dominated by legacy platforms.”
OneReg was founded during the COVID-19 pandemic, when unprecedented shutdowns and disruptions to air travel worldwide highlighted the fragility and inefficiency of traditional compliance processes within the aviation sector. The company’s goal is to create a unified digital ecosystem for regulatory documentation and to “get the entire aviation eco-system singing of the same hymnsheet.”
OneReg will be in attendance at the Singapore Airshow taking place this week, alongside airlines, airports, defence organisations and regulators from across the Asia-Pacific Region.
