Wizz Air has announced the launch of a brand new route from Birmingham to Timisoara, Romania, further expanding its network from the Midlands and strengthening connectivity between the UK and Eastern Europe. Expanding Wizz Air’s Birmingham Network

The new Timisoara service marks Wizz Air’s seventh destination from Birmingham Airport, reinforcing the airline’s growing footprint at the hub. The carrier already operates flights from Birmingham to Rome, Bucharest, Craiova, Budapest, Sibiu and Suceava, with Sibiu and Rome added to the schedule last year.

Introductory fares for the Timisoara service from Birmingham will start from £22.99, with tickets now available via Wizz Air’s website and official mobile app.

A Wizz Air spokesperson said the airline was excited to add this new route, describing Timișoara as “one of Europe’s hidden gems” and highlighting its blend of culture, history and vibrant city life. The spokesperson added that the route reflects Wizz Air’s commitment to offering affordable travel options to lesser-served destinations across Europe.

Discovering Romania’s ‘Little Vienna’

Located in Romania’s Banat region, Timisoara is widely regarded as one of the country’s most charming cities. Often referred to as “Little Vienna,” the city is known for its elegant squares, baroque architecture and tree-lined boulevards shaped by centuries of multicultural influence.

Timisoara also holds a significant place in modern European history and gained international recognition after being named European Capital of Culture in 2023. Today, it boasts a lively arts scene, diverse cuisine and a youthful atmosphere, making it an appealing destination for both weekend breaks and longer cultural getaways.

Birmingham Airport Welcomes New Destination

Nick Barton, CEO of Birmingham Airport, welcomed the announcement, saying the new route was a valuable addition to the airport’s growing route map. He noted that Timisoara’s reputation as a cultural hub, home to museums, galleries and historic landmarks, makes it a strong fit for Birmingham’s expanding leisure offering.

“We’re confident that this new service will prove popular with our customers,” said Barton.
