14-year-old aspiring aircraft engineer Dmytro Miskov, a Ukrainian who found refuge in Scotland, gained hands-on experience during a day with Loganair mechanics. Through that opportunity, he saw his aviation dreams take flight.

Dmytro’s work experience with Loganair
Dmytro was one of the first children to evacuate from Ukraine to Scotland when the war started in 2022. Now, four years later, he lives in South Lanarkshire with his mum and has dreams of becoming an aircraft engineer.
Mission of Innocents, a children’s refugee charity, arranged for Dmytro to get work experience with the Scottish airline Loganair, which happily invited him to see them in action.
In an interview with STV News, Dmytro said:
“It’s been great. Even being here for an hour, I’ve been seeing lots of things. It’s really good to meet someone who you could be in the future. You can get some advice on whether to go to university, college or get an apprenticeship, how to study properly and what subjects you need. We’ve been looking at planes, looking at the turbines and different stuff. I really enjoyed it.”

Dmytro’s ambition shines to people around him
In the same interview, Dmytro shared where his aspirations to become an aircraft engineer originated.
“I loved building things. That was what I want to do in my future. My plan is to do my exams good, to take an apprenticeship then apply for the job.”
Many people love Dmytro’s enthusiasm for his aspiration.
Ryan Gray, an aircraft mechanic at Loganair, praised Dmytro’s passion and enthusiasm for achieving his dream.
“It’s nice to see the younger generation want to come into this role. To see someone with the passion for wanting to be in the role is brilliant. When he does eventually join, I know he’ll be brilliant. He’s definitely got what it takes. He’s a good lad, good character and he seems very happy.”
Joyce Landry, founder of Mission of Innocents, has known Dmytro since he arrived in Scotland. She told STV News:
“To see how much his confidence has grown since then, speaking English and now pursuing his passion for aviation, is incredibly special.”
