The Pegasus Airlines boardroom committee at Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW) in Istanbul, has approved a project financing eight A321-200Ns that are to be scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026. This result comes from a previous order made in 2012 when the Turkish airline placed an order for 100 aircraft with the aviation manufacturer Airbus.

The initial order of the aircraft saw deliveries in 2016
The order for 100 aircraft has been a few years in the making, with the order being placed in 2012 and the initial deliveries of the aircraft occurring in 2016. The A321-200N had been part of a firm commitment of 100 aircraft on order but was not commissioned until 2016, with a prototype flying February of that year and Virgin America being the first to make it part of their fleet in early 2017.
However, it wouldn’t be until late 2019 when Pegasus Airlines added it as part of their own commercial fleet. The aircraft order by Pegasus Airlines with Airbus consisted of: forty-two A320-200Ns, and fifty-eight A321-200Ns, bringing their total to fifty A321-200Ns as part of the expansion in their backlog.

The Aircraft
The low-cost airline, which hails from the Republic of Türkiye, have expanded their financing project with eight aircraft to be delivered by 2026. The A321-200N, also known as the neo – which stands for ‘New Engine Option’ – was designed to be a more energy efficient alternative to the standard A321-200. Its turbofan engines and composite aerodynamic ‘Sharklet’ wingtips are said to be more environmentally friendly, with Airbus claiming a 20% reduction in fuel burn and CO2 emissions per seat in comparison, making this large aircraft particularly advantageous for long haul flights.
The financial model regarding the supply and delivery of these aircraft will be selected through a tender process.
