On Dec. 30, 2025, Textron Aviation delivered the first Citation Ascend mid-size business jet to a retail customer just two months after receiving the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) type certification. This aircraft was positioned to redefine the midsize business jet market with its blend of luxury, innovation, and performance.

Textron Aviation

Textron Aviation is the general aviation division of Textron Inc., a large American industrial conglomerate known for its diverse portfolio in aerospace, defence, specialised vehicles, and finance. It operates famous brands like Cessna, Beechcraft, and formerly Hawker.

Formed in 2014, Textron Aviation is a global leader in general aviation. It supports a wide range of aircraft, including business jets, turboprops, and pistons, along with aftermarket parts and services. It also provides extensive support through parts sales, maintenance, inspections, repairs, and advanced flight training.

The delivery of the first Ascend to a retail customer marks the aircraft’s entry into service.

The Citation Ascend

The Citation Ascend is a new generation, super-light mid-size business jet manufactured by Textron Aviation. It was designed as an evolution of the Citation XLS series (of which the company has delivered more than 1,000 units since 2000) and features an upgraded Garmin G5000 cockpit, more powerful Pratt & Whitney PW545D engines and a redesigned, luxurious cabin.

Some improvements on the cabin include:

  • Larger windows
  • Customisable, flat-floor design
  • Quiet cabin technology
  • Standard Wi-Fi and connectivity options
  • At-seat USB ports, universal outlets and wireless charging

This aircraft was also designed to offer enhanced performance and fuel efficiency, increased payload capacity and comfort for pilots and passengers.

Lannie O’Bannion, senior vice president of global sales and flight operations for Textron Aviation, stated:

“The first Citation Ascend delivery underscores Textron Aviation’s commitment to redefining the midsize segment with an aircraft that blends innovation, efficiency and unmatched comfort…We look forward to seeing the Ascend begin its journey with customers around the globe.”

The speed of the delivery of the first Citation to a retailer, less than two months after receiving the FAA type certification, shows the company’s commitment to the expansion of its mid-size business jet market share.
