Delta Air Lines flight from Miami to Minneapolis took a diversion and landed in Atlanta after the cabin crew found an abnormal odour in the cabin.

The Boeing 737-900ER aircraft operated by Delta Air Lines faced an unusual problem in its flight to Minneapolis from Miami.
An hour into the flight to Minneapolis, one of the flight attendants noticed an unpleasant smell in the cabin, which led the captain to make an unscheduled landing in Atlanta, Georgia.
According to Flightradar24, the aircraft was delayed by seven hours and took off from Miami at 1.26 p.m. The flight had 111 passengers and six crew, including two pilots.
According to Simple Flying, Delta Air Lines released a statement:
“Delta’s flight crew followed their extensive training to safely divert to Atlanta after an odor was detected onboard. We apologize to our customers for the experience and the delay in their travels.”
What happened next?
After landing in Atlanta, Delta crew members assisted the passengers in boarding a replacement flight, also a Boeing 737-900ER. The flight departed from Atlanta at 5.17 p.m. and landed in Minneapolis at 6.45 p.m., nine hours and 25-minutes later than the initial flight’s expected arrival time 0f 9.20 a.m.
The aircraft with the unpleasant smell remained at the apron in Atlanta for further examination. It was later declared fit to fly and started its service to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport from Atlanta on Dec. 30, 2025.
It has continued its services after that without any disruption. According to ch-aviation, this aircraft has been operating for Delta since 2013.
