British Airways are set to relaunch their direct flight from London City to Madrid Barajas, after discontinuing the route during Covid-19 due to high operation costs and low demand.

Taking off once again

The new route operates 11 times a week and has already started operation as of  Monday 1st December 2025. The route will be operated by BA Cityflyer on a selection of Embraer 190’s, one of the only types of aircraft permitted to fly from London’s smallest airport.

The route allows onward travel with Madrid’s flagship carrier Iberia, who share FlyMiles with British Airways to Central and South America destinations, easily accessible from Central London. This also allows for easy connectivity for other major European Cities, particularly in the Iberian and Balearic Region.

Quick and Easy

This is a welcome addition from the London British Airways Team expanding on current UK to Spain routes, following success with Heathrow and Gatwick flying the London-Madrid route. London City remains a hotspot airport for those looking to leave London quickly without having to travel on public transport to the suburbs before hopping on a plane. It remains London’s most convenient airport accessible by Docklands Light Railway.

What do you think about British Airways reintroducing this route?
