Avolon Signs Six-Aircraft Lease with Royal Air Maroc

The lease deal represents the first partnership between Avolon and Royal Air Maroc.

According to Avolon, the first two aircraft have already been delivered, while the remaining four are scheduled to arrive later this year and into early 2026.

The addition of the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will bring Royal Air Maroc’s total fleet to 65 aircraft, enhancing the airline’s operational efficiency and route flexibility.

Boosting Africa’s Fast-Growing Aviation Market

The agreement comes at a time when Africa’s aviation sector is witnessing annual traffic growth of nearly 6%, with projections estimating that around 1,200 new aircraft will join the continent’s commercial fleet by 2044.

Paul Geaney, Avolon’s President and Chief Commercial Officer, said the partnership underscores the company’s commitment to supporting Africa’s aviation expansion

“We are excited to welcome Royal Air Maroc as anew customer to support their ambitious growth plans. Africa is expected to be one of the fastest-growing regions for aviation over the next twenty years,” Geaney noted,, adding, “As one of North Africa’s leading carriers, Royal Air Maroc will play a key role in driving business growth and social development across the region.”

Royal Air Maroc’s Global Growth Vision

Royal Air Maroc’s CEO Abdelhamid Addou described the lease agreement as a milestone in the airline’s 10-year ‘Growth Program’, aimed at transforming RAM from a regional airline into a global connector linking Africa with the rest of the world.

“The arrival of these Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft not only increases our capacity but accelerates our transformation into a global player,” Addou said, adding, “They will strengthen our competitiveness, expand our network, and enhance passenger comfort to meet the highest international standards.”

The airline aims to serve 32 million passengers annually by 2037, aligning with Morocco‘s broader aviation development goals.

Currently, Royal Air Maroc operates flights to 98 destinations worldwide, with the new aircraft expected to support further route expansion and service improvement.
