Uzbekistan Airways has signed a landmark agreement with Boeing for 14 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners as part of their fleet modernisation strategy. The agreement comes along with purchase rights for an additional eight aircraft.

Strengthening Uzbekistan’s Role as a Global Aviation Hub

Marking a significant leap in Uzbekistan Airlines’ long-term vision to strengthen its global presence and enhance passenger experience, the deliveries of the Dreamliners are scheduled to begin in 2031.

This widebody fleet expansion that reaffirms the airline’s goal of making Tashkent an international transit hub supports Uzbekistan-2030, Uzbekistan’s national development program.

With the purchase of the new Dreamliners, Uzbekistan Airways will improve schedule reliability, increase capacity on long-haul routes and expand connectivity across Europe, North America, the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East region.

Emphasising the airline’s ambition, Shukhrat Khudaykulov, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Airways, stated:

“The Boeing 787 Dreamliner family has been the backbone of our long-haul operations. This new contract strengthens both our airline’s and our nation’s position as a leading aviation hub in Central Asia, while providing passengers with greater global connectivity.”

With the first 787-8 Dreamliner joining the fleet in 2016, Uzbekistan Airways has successfully operated Dreamliners for nearly a decade.

The 787-9 aircraft will solidify the carrier’s intercontinental performance as it promises greater range and seating capacity.

Why the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner Matters?

The Boeing 787-9 is globally known for its reduced carbon emissions, advanced fuel efficiency and cutting-edge passenger comfort features.

The aircraft is designed to minimise jet lag and enhance the long-haul flying experience for travellers. Passengers also benefit from oversized dimmable windows, lower cabin altitude, quieter cabin and improved humidity.

For Uzbekistan Airways, the adaptability to offering flexible capacity, increasing flight frequencies on high-demand sectors, and opening new long-haul routes plays a pivotal role in its hub-and-spoke model in Tashkent.

Through its Dreamliner fleet expansion, Uzbekistan Airways is also supporting the nation’s tourism and investment goals. The Boeing 787-9 will be crucial in boosting travel during peak seasons, better transfer options and showcasing Uzbekistan as a bridge between East and West.
