Doncaster Sheffield Airport, known previously as Robin Hood Airport until 2016, is planning to reopen its doors ready to take bookings by the end of 2026, with numerous flights taking off early 2027. The owners of DSA previously shut the airport in June 2022, blaming a lack of ‘commercial viability‘. Doncaster Council members have been working hard since closing to reopen its doors for the public.
DSA funded for reopening after continuous work from Doncaster Council members
Mayor Ros Jones shared that DSA will be funded up to £160million from the Government, allowing work to continue on the Airport. The City of Doncaster Council combined with South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, granted the funding ahead of reviving the airport.
The airport closed in 2022, after COVID put a hold on travel, in turn lowering the number of passengers departing and arriving at DSA. Numerous airlines including Flybe and Wizz Air withdrew flight routes at DSA due to COVID and financial reasonings.
Vacancies available ahead of Airport’s reopening
The City of Doncaster Council hold openings for three Head of Service roles. Doncaster Council’s website details openings for: Head of General Aviation and Cargo, Head of Fire Rescue and Emergency Planning, and Head of Assets. These senior roles pay a salary starting at £70,614. Applications for these roles close end of September 2025, with start dates for these roles ranging from immediate start, to the start of 2026.
