Alaska Airlines Announces Executive Transitions

Senior vice president of public affairs and sustainability at Alaska Airlines, Diana Birkett Rakow, has been announced as the new CEO of Hawaiian Airlines, effective October 29.

With her rich career across leading airlines, her knowledge in aviation has successfully placed her with the responsibilities for the long-term advancement of Hawaiian Airlines, taking over from her predecessor, Joe Sprague, who will step down from his long career with AAG.

“Diana has proven herself over an established career as a leader who builds strong teams, delivers results and cares deeply about people and culture. She will be a tireless advocate for the Hawaiian Airlines brand and for Hawai‘i, and I’m confident she will lead with authenticity and vision.” says CEO of Alaska Air Group, Ben Minicucci.

Rakow was positioned as Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Sustainability for over 8 years before being promoted to CEO. Her role consisted of continuous efforts to lead the company in corporate impact efforts, government affairs, communications, community and cultural relations, sales and customer engagement in the company’s investment arm.

The airline also announced its optimisation for the title of becoming a single mainline operating carrier under a single operating certificate (SOC) from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for later this autumn season.

Leadership Transitions at AAG

Alongside Rakow’s promotion to CEO, senior vice president, legal, general counsel and corporate secretary, Kyle Levine has been announced by AAG as the new executive vice president, corporate and public affairs, chief legal officer and corporate secretary for AAG.

His responsibilities include overseeing public affairs in addition to his current role with Alaska Air Group.

“Kyle’s deep commitment to our values makes him a fitting leader to support the important efforts of our public and government affairs teams, and to ensure that our company remains deeply connected to local communities and key stakeholders,” said CEO of AAG, Ben Minicucci.
