Swiss airline Edelweiss Air is taking over two aircraft from sister company Swiss International Air Lines, as it expands its short-haul fleet. As Edelweiss expands fleet, it will receive the Airbus A320 in October 2025 and an Airbus A320neo in April 2026. This would take the airline’s short-haul fleet to a total of 16 aircraft.

Stronger Position at Zurich Hub
The expansion is set to strengthen Edelweiss’s position at its Zurich hub, as well as see the airline acquire its first Airbus A320neo. The model uses at least 15% less fuel than its predecessor, the Airbus A320, and also produces lower emissions. Notably quieter than the A320, the Airbus A320neo has been lauded for its increased environmental performance, offering more opportunities for use on longer routes.
Bernd Bauer, CEO of Edelweiss, spoke about the expansion, commenting:
I am delighted that Edelweiss is continuing to develop on short- and medium-haul routes and that we are taking an important step towards modernising our short-haul fleet with the first Airbus A320neo. The aircraft combines state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly technology with greater comfort for our guests.
