Birmingham Airport announces terminal investment

BHX announces terminal investment by revealing boarding gates 58 to 60 plans with makeovers to enhance customer experience upon departure. Working in partnership with Vinci Building, a mixed-sector construction company with previous experience in aviation construction, Birmingham Airport has provided passengers with improved boarding areas to unwind before travel.

Al Titterington, Terminal Operations Director at BHX, comments:

“The latest improvement to these Boarding Gates is one of several terminal enhancements.”

The revised layout of boarding lounges 58 to 60 features: new flooring, energy-efficient and bright lighting, and new balustrades set to open up the room space of its entirety, allowing an even flow of travellers during peak travel times. The new layout and complete rejuvenation of every sector of the airport is deemed as “historical growth at BHX” by Titterington ahead of the investments.

Titterington also comments on Birmingham Airport’s preparations to welcome nearly 14 million passengers this summer season ahead of peak travel times, with the enhancement of boarding lounges and terminal investments, BHX places customer experience first to allow relaxation upon departure.

New plans amid boarding lounge improvements

Further investments in the airport were announced in May 2025 commencing the evolving plans of hospitality and retail openings, which will offer customers more when travelling through the airport. Outside, investments to the airfield are underway, including runway renovations, general maintenance and standing capacity capabilities. The airport is planning to invest £76.5 million over a 12-month period.

Leads at BHX hope to completely rejuvenate general boarding, including baggage carousels, makeup and back of house departments, and bring the airport into a new generation rendition.

Nick Barton, CEO at Birmingham Airport, said:

“With more passengers, we need improved facilities not only for our customers, but for our colleagues too.”

Ahead of the busy travel times, an expected 14 million customers hit during the peak summer season.
