SMBC Aviation Capital: Sale and Leaseback of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with Arajet

On April 25, 2025, SMBC Aviation Capital announced an agreement with Arajet for Boeing 737 MAX 8 deliveries. The aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 2026 and 2027.

About Arajet

Arajet is the flagship airline of the Dominican Republic and aims to make flying affordable, so everyone can travel. It is the Caribbean’s first ultra-low-cost airline, with operating hubs in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana. The airline provides services across North, Central, South America, and the Caribbean. Arajat began operation in 2022, and the airline’s new fleet of aircraft is composed of Boeing 737 MAX 8. The airline was recognised at the World Aviation Summit as the Best New Airline in the World in 2023. Víctor Pacheco Méndez, CEO of Arajet, said:

SLB Agreement with Arajet

SMBC Aviation Capital is one of the world’s largest aircraft lessors, based in Dublin, Ireland. The announcement of a sale and leaseback SLB agreement with Arajet for five Boeing 737 MAX 8 is a significant milestone for both parties. The commitment to support Arajet’s growth and expansion reinforces SMBC Aviation Capital’s role in the global aviation leasing market. The agreement enhances Arajet’s capacity to offer affordable and efficient air travel. Conor Stafford, Head of Airline Marketing at SMBC Aviation Capital, said:
