Calgary based airline, WestJet Airlines have announced that they will be updating their flights between Calgary Airport and Tokyo’s Narita International Airport to a daily, year round schedule.

The move is seen as the airline’s growing confidence in the route, having already expanded its Summer season earlier last year.

John Wetherill, WestJet Executive Vice-President, said in a statement:
“Leveraging our Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, WestJet continues to strengthen Calgary’s tourism pipeline with expanded Trans-Pacific service, creating new inroads for economic growth across Western Canada and beyond. Today’s announcement of our expansion to daily year-round service between Calgary and Tokyo further reaffirms our commitment to bolstering Canadians’ access to Asia.”
WestJet’s Codeshare with Japan Airlines
Narita Airport, along with Haneda Airport, is Tokyo’s two largest airports. It is also Japan’s largest airport in terms of passenger numbers, with 39.81 million passengers arriving at the airport in 2024. Whilst being served eighty-seven other airlines, passengers have the opportunity to travel onwards to destinations as varied as Papeete in Tahiti and Dubai.

Moreover, along with the expansion of the schedule, WestJet has a codeshare agreement with Japan Airlines, allowing passengers seamless transfer to Osaka and Nagoya.
Passengers who transfer from Narita and either airport via Japan Airlines will still collect WestJet’s ‘WestJet Dollars’ scheme.
John Wetherill continued:
“These additional options to connect, made possible by our codeshare partnership with Japan Airlines, expand WestJet’s global codeshare network and will open doors for guests looking for convenient and affordable ways to explore popular destinations across Japan.”
Flights between Calgary and Narita are available now, with the airline’s winter season set to start in October 2025.
