Delayed Flight, Left Behind Luggage

Flight CI522, operated by China Airlines on 27 February, experienced a significant delay of over 8 hours due to mechanical issues. The flight, originally scheduled to depart at 16:22 UTC, was delayed until 23:43 UTC.

Passengers waited for almost 8 hours on the plane while the crew did multiple tests trying to resolve the issue.

Troubled Passengers, Difficult Insurance Claims

Around 30 passengers eventually left the aircraft and changed their travel plans because of this delay.

However, this delay was not the only issue. Upon touchdown, passengers were told their luggage was still in Guangzhou due to a loading mistake. Since the passengers arrived safely in Taiwan, it is more difficult for them to file travel insurance claims regarding all inconveniences caused by the incident. As most travellers are returning home, travel insurance does not include compensation for delayed luggage. On most policies, it is considered “not an inconvenience” when the traveller is back in their home country.

Some passengers mentioned that their house keys were in their luggage, and they could not go home before they had access to their bags.

The significant inconvenience caused to passengers is still to be resolved as the delayed luggage is gradually delivered to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.

China Airlines is a Taiwan-based airline operating flights connecting Taiwan to global destinations.
