ANA Holdings announced a major purchase of over 75 aircraft from 3 major manufacturers to prepare for their strategic expansion plans for the coming years. As air travel recovers from the pandemic shock, this bold move exhibited ANA’s ambitions to expand its business to newer heights.

All Nippon Airways: Preparation for Strategic Expansion by 2030

ANA (All Nippon Airways) Holdings placed orders with Boeing Co., Embraer SA and Airbus SE earlier this month worth over $14.5M (£11.49M). This is the airline’s biggest bulk order ever, with over 77 aircraft ranging from Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and Airbus A321neo.

The airline said this purchase serves two main purposes: to expand the fleet and to update the aircraft in service. Koji Shibata, CEO of ANA, shares the company’s high hopes for their upgraded fleet:

“[The new aircraft would be] catalyst for improving the profitability of domestic flights and the expansion of international flights which is an area of future growth of our airline business.”

The order comprises 30 orders with Airbus, 20 orders with Embraer and 27 orders with Boeing. The aircraft are expected to be delivered between 2028 to 2030.

Positive Outlook Recovering from Pandemic Shock

This bulk order has shown a strong development trend and forecast in air travel as airlines and planemakers recover from the pandemic shock. New technologies emerging in the industry have highlighted the need to emphasise sustainable development. ANA’s order shows a strong desire to keep up with cutting-edge technologies while striving to provide the best in-flight experience.

ANA has also been strategic in developing regional markets. Except for a new Tokyo-Stockholm route during the summer season 2025, they recently announced reduced airfare connecting Australia and Japan, with roundtrips from Perth starting at AUD$995 (approx. £500).
